Interview prep - but wait there’s more!
Beyond my top 10 interview pointers, a client and I recently looked at a few elements in greater detail. In case they are useful to others, let me elaborate on them here.
1) Review the job description, annual report, website and media/press about the company so that you understand the corporate vision, mission, strategy, goals, objectives.
2) Consider creating a chart of each point on the description and how your experience companes. If you can share a specific short story that elucidates it, even better. Keep in mind the corporate priorities so you can tailor your message accordingly.
3) Do you know anyone who has worked with the company or has been a client or partner with them that you can ask (subtly or directly as appropriate) for more information about the company, its leadership, or your interviewer(s)? Or someone a step removed who knows them by reputation in their industry?
4) Based on what you know, think about the kinds of questions they are likely to ask and write them down.
5) Write out your most impactful responses to those questions.
6) Practice saying these scripts by yourself and with someone who knows you well and can give you constructive feedback.
7) When you feel comfortable with what you’re saying, video and watch yourself to help identify anything you want to change in both content or style of your presentation.
Good luck with your interview!
