Erika Steffer
Coach, career counsellor and consultant
Dedicated to service
I am best known for bringing Compassionate Curiosity to my coaching practice. The daughter of clergy-educators, I grew up firmly rooted in values of servant leadership, care for others, and being non-judgmental, present, and focused in the moment. This was nurtured by training in active listening as a distress centre volunteer, followed by masters level communication training at Western University, a college diploma in career and work counselling from George Brown College, and International Coach Federation training with the Adler Institute.
A lifelong learner, news junkie, and traveler, I am keenly interested in the world’s ecosystems, cultures, and people, and serve clients around the globe. I began my career as a professional researcher and knowledge manager. I bring a love of inquiry, analysis, and resource sharing to journeying with you in your voyage of self-discovery, planning, and action in your work or personal life.
Many clients value my years of experience in recruitment, where I saw daily what it takes to build a long, successful and purposeful career. After knowledge roles in financial services and with the federal government, I pivoted to focus on banking, asset & wealth management, insurance, private capital, and fintech sectors with two leading global executive search firms. I am pleased to have played a small role in identifying, assessing, and attracting talented leaders to lead transitions for top companies in Canada and around the world.
Early in my career, I worked as a technical writer and clear language associate, completing numerous writing and editing courses, including with the Editors’ Association of Canada. These cultivated my skill as a wordsmith and champion of clarity, a value add if you are revamping your resume and crafting your brand.
My own many life transitions at a young age instilled firsthand appreciation for the resilience, courage, and resourcefulness needed to make change, strive toward goals, and adapt creatively to the situations we face. With each ending comes a new beginning. I look forward to meeting you to facilitate yours.
